Jalen Green steadily improved as his 2021-22 rookie season with the Houston Rockets progressed, culminating in an historic scoring stretch to end the year and a spot on the NBA’s All-Rookie first team.

In a new interview with CNN Philippines, where he’s visiting as part of an adidas tour, Green credits much of that growth to making better decisions as the season moved along.

“I feel like last year, my decision-making was very slow,” he said. “That’s what took so long to get started, toward the end of the year. Then, toward the end of the year, I started knowing what I wanted to do.”

This offseason, Green says he is working on further refining his decision making, along with a few other points of emphasis.

“I’ve been working on decision making, tightening up my handle, and knowing what shots I want to get on the floor,” he said. “Getting comfortable getting to my spots and just rising up. Catch-and-shoot.”

Green emphasized that the strong work ethic is carried by many of his young Houston teammates, as well, as they continue to progress through the early stages of the franchise’s rebuilding project. “We’re a young team,” he said. “No matter if it’s two years, three years, next year, I just want every fan to be patient with us. We’re working. We’re in the lab. We’re going to make sure this happens as soon as possible.”
