ROC the Day raises over $1.1M in record-breaking event

Update: The 2021 ROC the Day 24-hour online giving event raised $1,196,259 for Rochester-area nonprofits, breaking the 2020 record of $1,054,043 raised.

The United Way of Greater Rochester’s ROC the Day was held Tuesday.

The 24-hour online event — a local expression of a global day of giving called Giving Tuesday — allows people to support nonprofit organizations in the nine-county greater Rochester region with financial donations of all sizes.

ROC the Day began at midnight Tuesday, Nov. 30, and ran through 11:59 p.m.

People could search for charities by name, location or under umbrella topics (such as animals, arts and culture, education, health, human services, religion, environment and community benefit/economic development) at roctheday.org.

Last year, its 10th, the event raised a record-breaking $1,054,043 for more than 500 organizations.
