While actress Madelaine Petsch may portray a character that is rarely seen without her iconic red lip, the "Riverdale" star knows the importance of keeping her face makeup free to ensure it stays clear and healthy. In the Know's Julia Webb caught up with the Bioré spokeswoman over the phone to get all of her skincare tips and details on what is to come for her character this season on "Riverdale."

In the Know: Have you always been interested in skincare? You live a clean a lifestyle and have always eaten a plant-based diet, but has this aspect of a healthy life always been an interest of yours?

Madelaine: You know, it’s funny. I remember when I was probably 10 years old -- I told the Bioré team this when we first started talking about working together -- the first skincare product my mom ever bought me were the Bioré pore strips, and I think that was my first entry into skincare. It got me so excited and so, as I got older, I think I got more interested in [skincare] and doing more research and figuring out what my skin type was and all that stuff. So I think it kind of stemmed from age 13.

What would you say are some of your absolute favorite skincare products?

I have to say the pore strips because her and I go way back! I’m really into the new rose quartz line. I’m very into my crystals right now, so when [Bioré] told me they were doing rose quartz I got way too excited! My two favorites from that are the Purifying Cleanser and the Pore Refining Scrub.

I love to exfoliate a couple times a week, especially with how much makeup I wear on the show, and I think the purifying cleanser is so nice and it really gets all of your excess oils out and your skin just feels fresh. And it's also aligned with my meditation and my crystals, so why would I say no?

On set, I'm sure you wear a full face of makeup, so how do you keep your skin clear and healthy when you know that day in and day out it's going to be loaded up with products?

You know, one of my favorite little tips is if I'm working one scene and then I've got one scene off in between or maybe two scenes off, I'll actually take my face makeup off. So I'll wash my face with usually whatever cleanser I have on set — right now it's the Rose Quartz + Charcoal Daily Purifying Cleanser -- and I'll take all my face makeup off and I'll leave my eye makeup and my eyebrows and sometimes my lipstick on. And then when it's time [to shoot] after we’ve blocked, I'll put my face makeup back on and it really allows my skin to breathe -- that’s like my number one tip.

And then on the days where I’m really heavy and I'll do 6 scenes in a row, I'll come home and use a scrub like the Rose Quartz + Charcoal Gentle Pore Refining Scrub, something like that to make sure everything gets out of my pores, because I'm really crazy about that stuff, and I want to make sure all of the makeup is out of my pores. That’s my number one concern and that’s what I think the scrub does for me.

Season four of "Riverdale" is currently on TV and the season has been so touching and suspenseful already. What can you share about what fans can expect from the rest of the season and for Cheryl? (*Answer contains spoilers*)

There’s so many fun things happening with Cheryl. I'm actually really happy with what’s going on with my character! You’ll see more of Jason of course, which is something I never thought I'd say in season four. You’ll see more of the 'Choni' relationship [Editor's note: 'Choni' refers to Cheryl and Toni Topaz's relationship] and how that unfolds, and I think you see a really beautiful side of Toni, like her supportive nature. I think that’s really beautiful to watch the way that she can really take care of Cheryl through these kind of crazy moments.

And you’ll see Cheryl's fire comeback a little bit. Especially -- we're shooting episode 11 right now — around the back half [of the season] you really see Cheryl's feisty side come back out and I really love it.
