Rise'n Roll's cinnamon caramel doughnut named 'Fan Favorite' in national contest
While it's been one of Indiana's iconic doughnut stops for years, Rise'n Roll Bakery can now officially call itself a fan favorite award winner.
The company's cinnamon caramel doughnut was voted the "Overall Fan Favorite" winner in "America's Greatest Donuts" contest from the Underground Donut Tour, a specialized doughnut food tour.
Over 8,000 votes were cast over the course of the contest. More than 300 shops were nominated and 160 were put up for a vote, according to a press release.

In addition to being the overall fan favorite, with more votes than any other shop, Rise'n Roll also won four other awards, including "Greatest Cinnamon Sugar Donut in America" and "Greatest Cake Donut in America."
The contest also named Rise'n Roll's cinnamon caramel Bavarian cream doughnut the "Greatest Unique Fillings Donut in America," and the "Greatest Unique Toppings Donut in America" went to the bakery's Crunch Bismark, the surface of which is covered in toffee crunch candy.
Rise'n Roll's history dates back to 2001, when an Amish couple started selling baked goods from their porch in Shipshewana.
The first Rise'n Roll bakery opened in 2004 in Middlebury, according to the bakery's website. The original store did not use any modern technology, including refrigeration or electricity — all the mixing, sheeting and prepping was done fully by hand.
While the company was sold to a non-Amish owner in 2009, they're still doing things the "old-fashioned way."
The bakery will receive a $500 prize or donation to the charity of their choice, according to the press release.
Rise'n Roll has locations across Indiana, including stores in downtown Indianapolis, Broad Ripple, Fishers, Greenwood and Avon.
