Ridgefield Park woman dies after she was struck by a van while in a crosswalk

A pedestrian died after a driver in a gray Ford van struck her Friday morning while she was trying to cross the street in Ridgefield Park, authorities said.

Sima Nightingale, 79 of Ridgefield Park, was crossing the street in a crosswalk at the intersection of Main Street and Mt. Vernon Street around 9:30 a.m. when she was struck by a driver making a left turn, Lt. Art Jensen said in a statement.

Nightingale was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center where she later died.

Jensen said the driver was released with "motor vehicle citations pending."
