Richmond man beats odds, wins $225,000 Cash Ball 225 top prize

Jun. 25—A Madison County man hit the jackpot last week after winning big on a Kentucky Lottery Cash Ball 225 ticket.

The Richmond man, who wished to remain anonymous, told lottery officials he couldn't believe his eyes when he checked his ticket.

"I was scanning my ticket when I saw $225,000 pop up on the screen. I'm trying to dissect what it is and scanned it again," he said.

Still in doubt, the man said he went out to his car to check the numbers and used his phone to confirm what he had seen was real.

He had just won $225,000.

"Wow, I couldn't believe it. When the odds of winning are one in one million three hundred thousand and I'm the one, that's crazy," he said.

Lottery officials said in a press release the man purchased the ticket for the June 12 drawing at the Meijer Gas Station on Lantern Ridge Drive in Richmond. His numbers matched the four white ball numbers and the Cash Ball number to win the game's top prize.

He told lottery officials he buys his Cash Ball 225 multi-draw ticket every Saturday for the upcoming week. He also checks his ticket that day from the previous week to see if he won.

He said he has been playing the same set of numbers for years and he picked them using family birthdays and anniversary dates.

He picked up a check on Thursday for $159,750, after taxes.

Meijer will receive a bonus of $2,250 for selling the winning ticket.
