Richmond Heights Police hosting fill-a-cruiser food drive at Dave's Markets

Jun. 26—Richmond Heights Police Department will be stuffing a cruiser full of non-perishable food products on July 2.

The event is a team effort between Dave's Markets and the police department to provide food for the less fortunate.

"We are parking a cruiser outside of Dave's Markets and filling it with food that will go to the Cleveland Food Bank and those who are hungry," said Richmond Heights Police Chief Tom Wetzel. "We like to do it at Dave's because its a little more convenient for people who are donating if they want to purchase non-perishable food there. Regardless of where they get it from we very much appreciate it."

Wetzel said that in the past they have been able to provide a significant amount of food to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and that during the event they may need to make multiple trips with the cruiser if it becomes filled too quickly.

"It's all about helping out the needy. We really want to do our best to give back and help out those who are hungry," Wetzel said. "Dave's has been great at helping us out and allowing us to do this. We have such a generous community."

The fill-a-cruiser event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 2 at Dave's Markets, 5100 Wilson Mills Road.
