Richard Childress Still Fuming Over Tyler Reddick's Decision to Leave NASCAR Cup Team

An insider at Richard Childress Racing confirms that the 12-time NASCAR championship owner remains “furious” that two-time ’22 winner Tyler Reddick has chosen to leave his team for 23XI Racing after the 2023 season.

The insider recently nodded his head knowingly when asked if it was clearly obvious that Childress didn’t want Reddick around next year.

Understandably, the team employee wants to remain anonymous. But he also acknowledged that Childress knows that almost everyone in the sport knows he wants Reddick gone sooner rather than later.

Austin Hill, one of RCR’s Xfinity Series driver, is most often mentioned as Reddick’s replacement … whenever that happens.

Less than two weeks after getting the first NASCAR Cup Series victory of his career at Road America, Reddick said he would leave Richard Childress Racing after 2023 to drive for the Denny Hamlin/Michael Jordan-owned 23XI Racing team. The immediate plan is for Reddick to stay with RCR through next year before going to 23XI in 2024.

In cases like this, drivers planning to switch teams often leave their current team early rather than spending a lame-duck season before his new ride. Currently, the 23XI Toyota team fields Camrys for journeyman driver Bubba Wallace and former Cup Series champion Kurt Busch.

At the time of the Reddick announcement on July 13, there was no word from 23XI regarding the status of Wallace and Busch, although Hamlin has said he doesn’t expect to have three cars in 2024. The team confirmed earlier this week that Wallace has been signed to a long-term deal with the team, making it more likely that Wallace and Reddick will be that team's driver pairing in 2024.
