Rich Scarcella: Gov. Mifflin's Tyler Minick is voted Berks Player of the Year in baseball

May 23—Junior Tyler Minick, who led the Gov. Mifflin baseball team to 19 consecutive wins to start the season, has been selected the Berks Player of the Year in a vote of the league coaches.

Brian Kopetsky was voted the Coach of the Year after he guided Muhlenberg to the league title for the second time in four seasons.

Minick, a shortstop and pitcher who's committed to UConn, leads the Berks League Division I champion Mustangs (19-2) with a .500 batting average. He has five doubles, three triples, a league-leading six home runs, 21 RBIs, 28 runs, 11 stolen bases and a .616 on-base percentage. He also is hitting .600 with runners in scoring position.

On the mound, Minick is 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA, 42 strikeouts and six walks in 30 innings.

Minick and Wilson senior infielder/pitcher Rueben Livingston are the only repeat selections on the 11-player All-Berks team.

Muhlenberg (19-3) placed three players on the All-Berks team: senior pitcher/outfielder Brad Coley, senior outfielder Luis Beato and sophomore pitcher/infielder Cam Burr.

Mifflin was the only other team with multiple all-county selections, junior pitcher/infielder Alexander Velez joining Minick.

Also receiving All-Berks honors are Exeter senior shortstop/pitcher Luke Weller, Hamburg senior pitcher Tristan Baer, Berks Catholic senior catcher R.J. Emrich, Kutztown senior pitcher/infielder Grant Fitzgerald and Oley Valley senior pitcher/infielder Luke Macdonald.
