Revolution Pizza donates portion of their funds to woman recovering from frostbite

Jan. 28—Revolution Pizza recently raised money to help a woman recover after suffering severe frostbite during the pre-Christmas blizzard.

On Jan. 26, Revolution Pizza donated 25% of their daily profit to Janay Johnson as she recovers from injures, she sustained on the evening of Dec. 23.

The 22-year-old Johnson said she does not recall the full event but at some point during the evening she became separated from her friends and was left alone in the snow with wind chills of 25 below and wind gusts approaching 50 miles per hour.

After three hours, a good Samaritan found her huddled in the snowdrift and called 911.

Johnson was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where she was stabilized from a life-threatening body temperature of 83 degrees but faces a long road of recovery.

According to Johnson's mother, Erica Martino, on most days prior to the incident, her daughter would stay at home caring for her niece Viviana, a 5-year-old with severe autism and epilepsy. Martino said her daughter cared for Viviana most days while she worked as a nurse in Willoughby.

Lake County Treasurer Michael Zuren reached out to Revolution Pizza who helped organize the event with both of their locations at 1075 E 305th St. in Wickliffe and 7346 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.

"We were overwhelmingly busy and it was amazing to see what this community is capable of," Zuren said. "I'm very proud to be a part of a community that rallies behind the wellbeing of one of their own and that has proven time and time again that they want to take care of each other."

The eventraised $1563.22 from both locations and Jurgen Wenzel, the managing partner of Revolution Pizza said that their day was a massive success. He said that their total sales were five to six times the amount of a normal day.

Zuren delivered the check to Johnson at her home where she was discharged a few days ago. Johnson is recovering with her mother and said that she is thankful for the support of her community.

Anyone who wants to give further to help Johnson and her family can donate to her GoFundMe page.
