Retirement community takes 'back to school' photos, offers advice: 'Be kind'
Residents at Riverview Retirement Community in Washington took their own "back to school" photos this year, and while they were at it, they offered the younger generation some sage advice.
The photos were inspired by parents sharing first day of school pictures on social media — which often include their child’s age, grade, and what they want to be when they grow up. Following suit, the retirees listed their name, age, their high school and graduating year, and offered some heartwarming advice to students.
"In the back to school spirit, our residents wanted to share some advice to all the kids who are headed to school this fall!" the community's Facebook post, which went live on Sept. 6, read.
Judy, aged 80, performed a plank during her photoshoot and offered the advice to "treat others the way you'd like to be treated." Norm, 81, echoed those sentiments and said to "be kind."
Dennis, also 80, told students to "make a commitment and follow through."
Both Camila, 89, and Wally, 95 advised students to volunteer.
Meanwhile, Marlene, 83, told students to stay away from drugs and not to "drink too much... but have fun."
Facebook users quickly praised the photos. "I love this idea! Thank you for your pearls of wisdom," one commenter wrote.
One Spokane resident shared, "What a good looking bunch of octogenarians and beyond!! Love it! Glad you're my friends!"
A representative for Riverview Retirement Community did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment.
