Restoracy of Whitestown residents 'relive their youth'

Jun. 25—The staff at the Restoracy of Whitestown want to make their residents feel young again.

Friday afternoon, the residents got to 'relive their youth,' as Executive Director Bryan Lindsay puts it. After their lunch hour, residents put on their summer clothes and went outside to get a chance to ride through a slip n' slide.

While others were slipping and sliding through the water, others had the chance to douse Lindsay and the rest of the staff with water balloons.

"Why do we need to grow up?" Lindsay asked, while wearing his sunglasses and swim trunks.

Activity Director Kim Rowe said she tries to host different events like this for their residents.

"I try really hard to think of different events," Rowe said. "On Mothers' Day, we had a special Mothers' Day tea party, and on Fathers' Day, we had a cookout for the guys and we got them all root beer. Last year we had horses come out one day."

We're not like every other nursing home, Lindsay added.

Restoracy of Whitestown is "senior care re-imagined" as its website says. Residents live in a more home-style setting with common living areas so they can have more interaction.

The senior care facility will celebrate its two-year anniversary from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 1 with a community picnic in the residential courtyard.
