Restaurants stuff Tiverton police with food and appreciation during National Police Week

TIVERTON — After last week, the town's police officers must be feeling stuffed.

Both with food and appreciation.

With the week of May 15 serving as National Police Week, restaurants around town showed their love for the men and women in blue by supplying a copious amount of food to the Police Department.

The show of appreciation started Monday, when Groundswell Cafe, Bakery, Home and Garden reached out to the department and asked if it could provide a breakfast of baked goods and coffee for the midnight to 8 a.m. shift.

On Tuesday, Localz on Stafford Road surprised the department when it called to say the restaurant would have lunch and dinner prepared for the officers working the 8-4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to midnight shifts.

The bounty continued Wednesday, when Sakonnet River Grille took care of lunch and dinner for the afternoon and evening shifts.

"Our officers are overwhelmed with the generosity and appreciation expressed by our local businesses this week!!!," the department exclaimed on social media.

And the parade of tasty meals didn't stop there.

Thursday brought a breakfast spread for the overnight officers from Family Ties Restaurant. Later in the day, Classic Pizza unexpectedly dropped off pizzas for the afternoon and evening shifts, and Barcellos Family Restaurant provided officers with chicken and broccoli Alfredo on top of ziti.

For the officers who still had room left, the week closed out with an offer from Evelyn's Drive-In for any Tiverton or local law enforcement officer to stop by the waterfront spot to pick up a half-dozen clam cakes.

Though that turned out to not be the final offering of the week with the Boat House providing shrimp scampi and Caesar salad early Friday afternoon.

"All of us at the Tiverton Police Department would like to thank our local restaurant businesses in town that helped make this police week one that won't be forgotten," Tiverton police said in a social media post.
