Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables could become head coach at Oklahoma as early as today, USA TODAY reported, citing a person familiar with the situation.

Citing sources, ESPN reported that Oklahoma officials were expected in Clemson on Sunday to finalize a deal.

Meanwhile, Dan Wolken of USA TODAY also said that Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott is a leading candidate for the head coaching jobs at Virginia and Duke. That could also include Miami because there are multiple reports of Clemson athletics director Dan Radakovich on the verge of taking that job.

The Tigers (9-3) will hear about their bowl destination today as well, most likely in Florida. They are being picked to play in either the Dec. 29 Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando or the Dec. 31 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville.

Oklahoma’s coaching position opened when Lincoln Riley left the team last week for Southern Cal. Venables, 50, has strong ties at Oklahoma because he was defensive coordinator for the Sooners from 1999-2011 before coming to Clemson. Stoops was there until 2016 and is back as interim coach through at least the bowl game.

Elliott, 42, is a former Clemson wide receiver who has been on the Tigers’ coaching staff since 2011, with the last seven years as coordinator. Virginia has an opening because Bronco Mendenhall surprisingly announced he would step down after its bowl game. Duke and David Cutcliffe have parted ways after 14 seasons. Manny Diaz is still coach of Miami, although rumors have been circulating that he is not long for the job, especially with a chance in athletics directors immanent. Blake James left the position after 17 years there.
