Even in the offseason when many thought higher of this Vikings team, there were reports of Minnesota sending Anthony Harris elsewhere.

In what was a surprising move at the time, the Vikings franchise tagged Harris. Then, Harris was reportedly tabbed as a possible tag-and-trade candidate.

Also earlier this offseason, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said that “if you put up the positions most important on defense it’s probably not going to be safety,” per Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune.

So there were rumblings of Harris’ departure even then. Now that the team is 1-5, Harris is reportedly on the market.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Harris is among the new available names that he’s heard over the last few days.

Harris finished last season with six interceptions in the regular season, tied for a league best. This year he has none so far. Of course, interceptions don’t tell the whole story, but Harris’ overall PFF grade is down from 90.5 in 2019 to 63.5 so far this season.

Though he hasn’t played as well as he did last season, he’s still a capable player. He’s also on a one-year deal, and could command a big contract for the cash-strapped Vikings down the road. Trading him would make sense.
