Report: Star Oklahoma State WR Tylan Wallace out for season with torn ACL
Oklahoma State wide receiver Tylan Wallace will miss the final four regular-season games of the year for the Cowboys.
Wallace suffered a non-contact knee injury in practice on Wednesday. And according to a report from the Oklahoman, that injury was a torn ACL.
Wallace has been one of the best wide receivers in the country over the last two seasons. He leads Oklahoma State with 53 catches for 903 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019. That’s a followup on his sophomore season in 2018 when he had 86 catches for 1,491 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the best wide receiver in college football. The award was won by Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy.
A junior, Wallace could elect to go pro after the season instead of returning for one more year. Given his production over his last 21 games, it would be more surprising if he elected to come back to school.
While Oklahoma State’s run game goes through Chuba Hubbard, its passing game goes through Wallace. Oklahoma State has completed 149 passes, meaning Wallace has caught over a third of the team’s completions. The team’s second-leading receiver, Dillon Stoner, has less than half of the receptions Wallace does. And for a far lesser yards per catch average. Stoner has 25 catches for 232 yards. No other Oklahoma State wide receiver has more than 14 catches.
So yes, Wallace’s injury is a huge blow to an Oklahoma State offense that’s averaging over 37 points per game so far this season. The Cowboys face TCU on Saturday and have games against Kansas and West Virginia before ending the 2019 season against No. 10 Oklahoma.
