The New Orleans Saints don’t want their 41-year-old quarterback to take the field until he’s completely ready. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, even though Drew Brees is progressing in his rehab, there is no timetable for when he’ll be ready to start. He reportedly remains questionable for the Saints’ Week 15 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Brees has been on injured reserve since Nov. 20 when a scan revealed 11 fractured ribs and a punctured lung. He reportedly got those injuries over two different games, Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers. Brees was in enough pain against the Niners that he wasn’t able to play the second half and was replaced by Jameis Winston.

Brees was eligible to come off injured reserve for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Saints are continuing to start Taysom Hill.

Hill is making his fourth consecutive start on Sunday and is going for his fourth consecutive win. His games haven’t always been pretty, but the Saints have managed to pull together and come out on top every time.

Saints need wins to keep home-field advantage

The Saints will clinch the NFC North on Sunday if they beat the Eagles, but they need to keep on winning to make sure they keep home-field advantage at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome during the playoffs.

The Saints are currently one game up on the Green Bay Packers, who frequently play in frigid temperatures. If that one-game advantage turns into a tie, that Saints are in trouble. They lost to the Packers in Week 3, so Green Bay would be the winner of any tiebreaker.

That means the Saints might have to play at freezing Lambeau Field instead of the temperate Superdome. The Saints probably want to avoid that at all costs — but not enough to risk the health of their recovering starting quarterback. Not even against the Chiefs in Week 15, which will be a major test for Hill if he starts.
