Report: MSU, UM leaders for 4-star ATH Dillon Tatum with decision expected soon

It appears Michigan and Michigan State will once again be battling it out for one of the state’s top recruits — this time West Bloomfield four-star athlete Dillon Tatum.

Jared Purcell of MLive caught up with Tatum following a recent track meet, and Tatum indicated the Spartans and Wolverines are both at the top of his list.

“It’s going all over the place,” Tatum told Purcell of his recruitment. “But mainly Michigan and Michigan State, they’re recruiting me the hardest.”

Tatum additionally made note that both Michigan and Michigan State are the leading candidates to land a commitment from him. And it sounds like a decision could be coming soon.

In another post — this time from Sam Webb of 247Sports — Tatum said a commitment could be coming very soon. Tatum told Webb that he was close to pulling the trigger on his decision this week but the coaching staff switch up in Ann Arbor (Steve Clinkscale joining Michigan’s staff) made him hold off for now.

“This past Wednesday I wanted to actually drop my video, but (the Clinkscale) hire kind of slowed it down,” Tatum told Webb. “I want to actually talk to him and have that relationship built with him before I make a final decision.”

Tatum is ranked as the No. 255 prospect in the 2022 class, and No. 5 player in the state of Michigan, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Tatum has always been considered a lean to Michigan — and the crystal ball predictions back that up — but it’s good to hear the Spartans are still in the conversation. It may be an uphill battle, but Michigan State could potentially land one of the state’s best prospects in the next few weeks.
