Report: Jags interview with Raheem Morris for DC job set for Wednesday

The Jacksonville Jaguars have their head coaching situation sorted out with Urban Meyer, and now it’s just a matter of him filling out his staff. One name that has been linked to the Jags’ coaching situation for some time is former Atlanta Falcons interim Raheem Morris, who now has another interview set up with the Jags — this time as a defensive coordinator.
Per Josina Anderson, Morris will travel to Jacksonville Tuesday to have dinner with Meyer and will interview for the Jags’ defensive coordinator job Wednesday. Monday Morning Quarterback senior reporter Albert Breer confirmed the report afterward while adding that Meyer likes the Seattle Seahawks’ scheme, which Morris utilizes.

Ex-Bucs coach Raheem Morris get to Jacksonville on Tuesday night and interviews for the Jags DC job Wednesday (as @AdamSchefter and @JosinaAnderson said). Makes sense—Morris' old boss/friend, Dan Quinn, had been lined up by Meyer to be DC.

Morris interviewed for the Jags’ head coaching vacancy on Jan. 5 after serving as the Falcons’ interim head coach due to Dan Quinn being fired on Oct. 11. While Morris was under the role, the Falcons went 4-7 and were 1-4 in their division. Statistically, Atlanta was sixth against the rush and 30th against the pass under Morris.
In his press conference Friday, Meyer said he would be looking to build an “elite” staff. Morris would put him closer to that because Meyer would be gaining a coach with 18 years of NFL coaching experience and three years of head coaching experience (excluding his time as an interim). As many can recall, that time as a head coach came with the Tampa Bay Bucs (2009-11).
Gaining Morris’ experience to the staff would be huge for Meyer, especially when considering how well Atlanta played against the run. That’s an area the Jags could use some help at with Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry in the division as they ranked 30th against the run (allowing a 153.3 YPG average).
