Reopening of Scotty's planned in 2023

The new owner of Scotty's Diner has plans to reopen the business in 2023.

Toby Doeden announced plans Friday to reopen the restaurant once extensive updating and remodeling is completed. The local diner is expected to reopen in spring or early summer. The restaurant is expected to serve all the menu items people have enjoyed through the years, including frozen cokes, milk shakes and many other classics.

The diner will also feature a drive-thru option for customers.

"I just can't imagine Aberdeen without Scotty's and I am determined to do whatever it takes to keep it going. I am investing a significant amount of time, money, and resources to make Scotty's Diner a family friendly experience for years to come, that includes getting rid of the alcohol," Doeden said in the release.

Scotty's closed earlier this summer with the business sold to a management company. Previous owner Stacy Gossman said he didn't have the staff to keep the restaurant open.

  • High school students at Warner, Aberdeen Central and Roncalli each heard presentations from business leaders about ethics as part of Junior Achievement's "JA Excellence through Ethics" program. The program at Roncalli was Dec. 9. Programs at Warner and Aberdeen Central were on Dec. 7. Through this program students learn about the importance of ethics and challenge students to 2consider how ethical dilemmas are a part of everyday life.
