Ian Alexander Jr., Regina King's only child, died on January 21 by suicide.

King confirmed the tragic news in a statement to People on Friday. "Our family is devastated by the loss of Ian," she expressed. "He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time."

After his death, fans have started to analyze his final cryptic tweets that hint at Alexander's struggles with mental health. On January 14, the late DJ tweeted: "You know that episode of SpongeBob where they go inside his brain and it’s a bunch of mini SpongeBobs just losing their sh*t…..yea that one really hits home." In another tweet posted on the same day, he briefly shared his feelings regarding social media and said: "I don't think Instagram is healthy for me."

Fans and several celebrities have expressed their support for King during her time of grief, including Kid Cudi, Rosanna Arquette and Pam Grier. "Regina King and her family will need the biggest hugs at some point," Grier wrote on Twitter. "So many have passed the last week. There are no words," she added.
