Celebrities are speaking out following this weekend’s mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, with Reese Witherspoon demanding gun reform and John Legend slamming the “racist venom coming from the president’s mouth.”

After the two shootings left at least 29 people dead, according to media reports, Witherspoon called the violence “unbearable” and urged Congress to pass “common-sense gun laws.”

Though the Big Little Lies star has been criticized in the past by some fans when she’s spoken out about politics — such as her mention of abortion rights during the Kavanaugh hearings — many commenters backed her views on gun reform. Several, however, urged her to put the pressure on the Republican-controlled Senate rather than Congress. And a few disagreed, claiming that this was a matter of “mental health” and “not a gun control issue.”

Some celebrities also see it as a Trump issue. Chris Evans and John Legend were among the stars blasting Donald Trump for his past statements about immigrants, which Legend — who this week called the president a “racist prick” — condemned as “racist venom.” The singer went on to say Trump “regularly inspires killers” with his rhetoric.

Cher, Sarah Silverman, Alyssa Milano, Cardi B, Rihanna and Bette Midler also reacted to the shootings on social media.
