Reds' Wade Miley must make Incredible Hulk tattoo permanent after no-hitter, teammate says

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Wade Miley talked after his first career no-hitter about a temporary Incredible Hulk tattoo that his 4-year-old son, Jeb, had given him on his forearm before he left for Cleveland.

Teammate Nick Castellanos told reporters he believes that Miley has no choice but to make that tattoo permanent given Miley's historic result in Cleveland during Friday night's 3-0 victory.

"Well now he's got to get it for real - you know. Obviously," Castellanos said. "That's the easy answer is you got a fake one, you threw a no-no. Now you make it for real."

Miley wasn't so sure.

"I don't know. I'm so scared of needles right now, I don't even want to think about this tattoo," he said. "I'm gonna try to get my wife to order as many Hulk tattoos as she can. Maybe I'll just slap on them before every start - let (Jeb) do it. He actually put this on and everything. He had to have it right here. I put it on my shoulder so I could hide it. He had to have it on my forearm. And that's what we went with. He loves the Avengers and stuff like that so I'm rocking it. ... I've got no muscles at all. I'm shriveled up. But maybe this gave me some strength, I don't know. It was fun."

Miley threw 114 pitches in the 17th no-hitter in franchise history. It was the fourth no-hitter of the 2021 Major League Baseball season and the second no-no of the week after the Baltimore Orioles' John Means no-hit the Seattle Mariners. It's the second time this season that Cleveland has been no-hit.

"It was fun. It was cool to be a part of - and I'm just happy to do it with this group of guys," Miley said. "Once again, (catcher) Tucker Barnhart - I just can't say enough about what he's done for me, and just everybody. ... It's been fun."

Said Barnhart, who caught a no-hitter for the first time in his career: "I've never really seen an entire team so happy for just one person in my career. I'm very, very, very lucky and fortunate and grateful to be a part of that tonight."
