Red Lake Nation releases unofficial 2022 general election results

May 19—RED LAKE — Red Lake Nation

has released its unofficial results for the 2022 general election that took place on Wednesday.

Floyd "Buck" Jourdain challenged incumbent Darrell Seki Sr. for Red Lake chairman, for which Jourdain earned 1,510 votes and Seki received 1,507 — a mere difference of three votes.

Jourdain and Seki will go against each other in a run-off election in July without the added competition of Darwin Sumner who received 273 votes, Lydell Roberts with 175 or Angela Strong-Chaboyea with 66.

Incumbent Sam Strong won reelection as tribal secretary over challenger Tim Sumner, 1,731 to 1,693.

Vernelle Lussier was elected as tribal treasurer over Martina Beaulieu, 2,355 to 1,129. Incumbent treasurer Annette Johnson did not seek reelection.

Each district will also have a run-off election in July with the top two general election candidates being on the ballot.

Contenders include incumbent Adrian Beaulieu and Harlow Spears for Little Rock District, Randall Kingbird and Eugene Standing Cloud for Ponemah District, incumbent Donald Good Sr. and Robert May for Red Lake District, and Hermand Donnell and Harold Graves Jr. for Redby District.
