Real Wheels: 64 Chrysler worth the wait

Jul. 23—WAPAKONETA — Matt Hollinger, of Wapakoneta, noticed this 1964 Chrysler Imperial sitting behind Astro Lanes Bowling Alley in Wapakoneta for two years.

"I saw it there for two years and I kept looking at it. It came up for sale and I got it. It was a wreck," said Hollinger.

The fact that the car was a wreck didn't scare Hollinger as he knows cars.

"I grew up working on cars with Grandpa," said Hollinger. "I brought everything back to life. Nothing (when I got it) worked on the car."

Hollinger has owned this beauty for four years now.

The Imperial was Chrysler Corporation's luxury automobile from 1955 to 1975. The Imperial Lebaron included the top-of-the-line trim level. In 1964 approximately 23,295 Imperials were sold, making that year the second-best year for Imperials.

Hollinger rebuilt the transmission, upgraded the brakes and air ride suspension. The car features front and rear air.

"It has power everything, but no cruise," said Hollinger.

Hollinger brought his car to the Westgate Charity Car Show.
