Read and React: It's the most wonderful time of the year

Welcome back, football!

The NFL regular season is finally here, which means no more talk of holding out (except Melvin Gordon), no more drama (except Antonio Brown), no more meaningless football games (except the 16 the Dolphins will play this season).

What matters, starting Thursday night with Green Bay at Chicago, isn’t whether the Bears are going to have to pony up nine figures to re-sign a heretofore mediocre quarterback (Mitchell Trubisky), or if Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur can coexist without issues, or the over-under on number of times NBC’s cameras cut to a cheering Danica Patrick.

What finally matter is football. And we’re about to find out …

If Baker Mayfield is for real.

If Lamar Jackson is more than a runner.

If Sam Darnold can take over New York.

If Carson Wentz can stay healthy.

If Jared Goff is over his Super Bowl hangover.

If Patrick Mahomes can get any better.

If Kyler Murray is tall enough.

If Eli Manning is done.

If the Cowboys going all in on Zeke pays off.

If the Steelers need Antonio Brown or …

If Antonio Brown as we knew him is over.

If time will catch up with Tom Brady.

(Actually, scratch that last one. We all know the answer is no.)

Enjoy tonight’s game, and come back tomorrow when we’ll unveil our brand-spanking new NFL weekend primer.
