Connor Overton entered Tuesday's series opener against the Guardians in Cleveland with three impressive starts under his belt in his young Cincinnati Reds career, and only six as a big-leaguer.
But on Tuesday, he delivered his best start yet, pitching 7 2/3 strong innings before leaving the game with a 3-1 lead - responsible for the runners on 1st and 2nd. One run scored after Tony Santillan relieved Overton, but the Reds still led 3-2 through 8 innings.
Overton allowed three hits and walked only the final batter he faced, while striking out two. He threw 98 pitches - 68 for strikes.
"Connor Overton's got to be very proud of what he's done tonight. A lot of hard work went into that," Bally Sports Ohio analyst Chris Welsh said during the broadcast.
Reds rookie Hunter Greene tossed 7 1/3 no-hit innings in the Reds' 1-0 loss to the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Connor Overton pitched 7 2/3 innings, the longest Reds outing of the season. He only had two strikeouts, which fits his style, but Overton got better as the game went on, only allowing three hits.

My only concern with Connor Overton at this point is whether Brian Snitker will leave him in too long as he tries to guarantee the win for the NL at the All-Star Game.

For @Coverton6, inducing weak contact and keeping his fielders on their toes is all part of the plan.#ATOBTTR | @JimDayTV pic.twitter.com/ZDBvo6JIcG
