Ravens RT Patrick Mekari leaves game vs. Bengals after suffering ankle injury

Ravens right tackle Patrick Mekari left Sunday’s 41-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals after suffering an ankle injury early in the second quarter.

With the 9:37 left on the clock and the Ravens facing a first-and-10, quarterback Lamar Jackson pump-faked before getting sacked by defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi and defensive end Sam Hubbard. As Jackson was brought to the ground, Mekari was rolled up on from behind by a pile of bodies. He was slow to get up before limping off the field and into the team’s medical tent.

After being evaluated there, Mekari went to the locker room and did not return to the game after being listed as questionable.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh did not have an update on Mekari’s status after the game.

Mekari’s injury comes after All-Pro left tackle Ronnie Stanley was ruled out for the season following his third ankle surgery in two years. Stanley had been sidelined since Week 1, forcing veteran Alejandro Villanueva to play left tackle while Mekari was inserted at right tackle.

The Ravens’ offensive line has dealt with several injuries. Backup right tackle Tyre Phillips returned from the injured reserve list last week after injuring his knee in the season-opener against the Las Vegas Raiders and replaced Mekari on Sunday. Center Bradley Bozeman was limited in practice throughout the week with back issues, while Villanueva has dealt with knee problems.

Mekari, a 2019 undrafted free agent out of California, has appeared in seven games while making six starts and has received praise from Harbaugh for his ability to step in and provide protection for Jackson.
