Raptors sign guard Cameron Payne as post-Kawhi roster adjustments continue

The Toronto Raptors continued to add depth to their roster in the wake of the Kawhi Leonard era, signing guard Cameron Payne to contract on Thursday.

In accordance with team policy, financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Payne is a 6-foot-3 guard who averaged 6.3 points and 2.7 assists in 40 games last season with the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. His best performance came with the Bulls on Oct. 24 when Payne dropped 21 points on the Charlotte Hornets.

The Memphis, Tennessee, native was drafted 14th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2015 NBA Draft after two solid collegiate seasons at Murray State. In 2014-15, Payne was named the Lute Olson Player of the Year, an award given to the top NCAA player with at least two seasons under his belt. He was also named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in the same season.

Payne, who owns career NBA averages of 6 points, 2.5 assists and 16 minutes per game, joins a group of newly-signed Raptors that includes Stanley Johnson, Matt Thomas and Terence Davis.
