Rapper Juelz Santana is a free man after an early release from prison

In The Know and Complex News have come together to bring you the latest news in hip hop music and culture.

Dipset rapper Juelz Santana was released early from prison on August 5.

Santana completed 19 months of a 27-month prison sentence following his arrest in March 2018. Security agents at Newark Liberty Airport discovered a loaded .34-caliber handgun and eight oxycodone pills in his carry-on. Santana fled the airport before turning himself in a few days later.

The rapper pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a weapon on an aircraft. However, he is now a free man. Santana was released from the Petersburg Medium Federal Corrections Institution in Hopewell, Va. where friends and family awaited.

“Free at last,” he wrote on Instagram. The rapper has posted numerous photos with his loved ones already.

“I missed my family. God is good!” he said in another photo, hugging his children.

Santana is also, of course, indulging in a few of the activities he likely didn’t have access to in prison. Like hearty home-cooked meals, a haircut and time with his wife Kimberly James, AKA Kimbella.

“My king! I wouldn’t have it no other way as well, baby,” James commented. “I love you however you come! So happy you’re home.”

Juelz Santana, born LaRon Louis James, rose to fame with the New York City rap group Dipset in the early 2000s. He released the solo efforts “From Me To U” and “What the Game’s Been Missing” in 2003 and 2005, both of which reached the top ten on the Billboard 200.
