In his first season as Alabama football's starting quarterback, Bryce Young electrified the nation and won nearly every award he was eligible for, including the Heisman Trophy.
Young burst onto the scene as a first-year starter for the Tide and picked up right where the Alabama offense left off, with a fast and efficient attack that was among the most explosive in the country.
Young guided the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff championship game, an SEC title and a Cotton Bowl victory in the national semifinals.
Young's 47 touchdown and 4,872 passing yards led the SEC and allowed him to establish himself as a top player in college football. On Wednesday, he added his latest accolade when he was named the Roy F. Kramer SEC male athlete of the year award.
With so many awards in the trophy case, it might be tough to keep track of which ones carry more weight. So here's a ranking of Young's accolades from his first year as Alabama's starting QB:
10. First Team All-SEC
Young earned this award with fellow Alabama teammates Brian Robinson Jr., Jameson Williams, Evan Neal, Will Anderson Jr. and Jordan Battle for work done in 2021. It's a big deal to be named the best at your position in the nation's best conference, but it was just the beginning for Young.
9. SEC Offensive Player of the Year
Young took home the 2021 SEC Offensive Player of the Year after a season that saw him lead a stunning comeback against Auburn in the Iron Bowl and throw for a ridiculous 559 yards against Arkansas, breaking a Crimson Tide single-game passing record that had stood since 1969. Anderson took home the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year honor.
8. SEC Male Athlete of the Year
The Roy F. Kramer award is given to the top male and female athletes in the SEC each year — which means it's a big deal. Young took home the award for the 2021-22 academic year along with South Carolina women's basketball star Aliyah Boston, becoming the fifth Alabama football to win the honor and second straight, (DeVonta Smith).
7. First Team All-American
Young was named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press, Football Writers Association of American and TSN, joining receiver Jameson Williams and linebacker Will Anderson Jr. as Crimson Tide players on a first team, the most in the nation.
6. Manning Award
This award is given to the top quarterback in college football and is the only award that includes bowl performances. Young threw for seven touchdowns and nearly 1,000 passing yards in postseason play, beating out Ohio State's CJ Stroud, Ole Miss' Matt Corral and Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett for the award, among others.
5. Davey O'Brien Award
Another award that goes to the best quarterback in college football, Young beat out Pickett and Stroud once again to become the second consecutive Alabama quarterback to win the award, following Mac Jones, now starting for the New England Patriots.
4. SEC Championship Game MVP
Championships matter, placing the reward for Young's effort in the 2021 SEC Championship Game higher on our list. Young threw for 426 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-24 victory over No. 1 Georgia to deliver Alabama's 29th SEC championship.
3. AP College Football Player of the Year
After Smith became the first Alabama player to win the award in the previous season, the Crimson Tide landed back-to-back AP Player of the Year awards when Young took another turn atop one of college football's hallowed podiums.
2. Maxwell Award
Given to the best player in college football, Young beat out Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker and Pickett once again after setting Alabama single-season records for passing yards (4,872) and touchdowns (47).
1. Heisman Trophy
Young took home the sport's most coveted award, making it the easy choice as the top honor on this list. Young won in a landslide, beating out Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, Pickett and Stroud.
