Radio show host collecting holiday messages for North Dakota National Guard members
Dec. 6—Kyle Murphy, morning show host for "Murphy in the Morning" at KSJB Radio, would like to send messages of gratitude to North Dakota National Guard members who can't be home for Christmas.
Murphy got the idea to have people write Christmas greetings, well wishes or thank yous to North Dakota Natioanl Guard soldiers and airmen who won't be home for the holiday to pick up their spirits.
"There are right now nearly 500 North Dakota Guardsmen (soldiers and airmen) mobilized overseas and within the United States," said Bill Prokopyk, public information officer for the North Dakota National Guard.
A guard recruiter that Murphy spoke with about the idea said he would see that the messages are delivered to the North Dakota National Guard members, Murphy said.
People wishing to participate can email messages or letters to the guard members to Murphy at murphy@ksjbam.com or mail them to him in care of KSJB Radio, 2400 8th Ave. SW, Buffalo Mall, Suite D-1, Jamestown, ND 58401. Any emails with messages sent to Murphy will be printed out and all of the messages collected will be delivered to the recruiter's office for delivery to the troops. The deadline to get the messages to Murphy is Dec. 17.
Children from Lincoln Elementary School are expected to take part in the activity, according to Sherry Schmidt, Lincoln Elementary School principal. Dec. 7 is National Letter Writing Day and the children will be writing messages to the Guard soldiers that day, she said.
