Have you run for elected office before? North Carolina House of Representatives (2018, 2020). North Carolina State Senate (Current/2022).

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: Learned the value of public service. Before serving as a representative I was an active volunteer with PTA (President and Treasurer Sharon Elementary, President South Charlotte Middle), LWV (education chair), School Leadership Team (Sharon and South Charlotte) and Board Chair for Charlotte Secondary Charter.

What are the three issues that you see as most important to your district and what will you do to address them?

I am running as an advocate for common-sense solutions to issues facing our public schools, local economy, and environment. I believe that these priorities will benefit the lives of North Carolinians and the constituents of Senate District 42.

At a time when costs are rising, state government has a surplus. How should it be used?

The state government surplus should be used to improve the lives of families and to help mitigate the rising cost of living. Unfortunately, time and time again we’ve seen our leaders in Raleigh use surplus funds to give tax breaks to corporations while overlooking our citizens who need the support most.

Will you vote for Medicaid expansion in North Carolina?

Yes.

What has the legislature gotten right, and what has it gotten wrong, about public education in North Carolina?

The General Assembly has not provided enough funding for education in regard to the “what we’ve gotten wrong”. The General Assembly can take action to ensure that children are meeting their constitutional right to a sound basic education including by raising teacher pay, putting teacher assistants back in classrooms and investing in school personnel like social workers, counselors and nurses.

Should North Carolina change its abortion laws? How?

There should be fewer restrictions on abortion after 20 weeks.

Please add anything else voters should know about your position on the legality or availability of abortion in North Carolina.

The government should not have control over what someone can and cannot do with their bodily autonomy. Abortion is a personal decision and should be left to the woman, her family, and her faith.

Should medical marijuana be legalized in North Carolina?

Yes.

What, if anything, should the legislature do to shape curriculum dealing with topics of race, sexuality and gender?

We should not politicize our school system in North Carolina. Decisions regarding curriculum should be made by educators, and not by our legislature.

Do you accept the results of the 2020 presidential election?

Yes.
