Quincy wrestling tournament packs gym

Jan. 26—QUINCY — The Quincy Mat Animal Invitational saw more than 20 teams from around Washington on Saturday.

The tournament was closed to spectators, but packed with wrestlers, coaches and referees.

Only two Columbia Basin teams placed in the top 10 for team scores. Those were Royal High School in seventh place and Quincy High School in eighth.

Nine Columbia Basin athletes had top three finishes:

—Saidt Alvarez, of Quincy, who took first place in the boys 106-pound weight class.

—Gio Castro, of Warden High School, who took third place in the boys 106-pound weight class.

—Cael Cox, of Warden, who took third place in the boys 126-pound weight class.

—Kaleb Hernandez, of Royal, who took third place in the boys 170-pound weight class.

—Clinton Garnick, of Royal, who took third place in the boys 182-pound weight class.

—David Medina, of Quincy, who took second place in the boys 220-pound weight class.

—Kevin Dominguez, of Royal, who took third place in the boys 285-pound weight class.

—Crystal Vargas, of Quincy, who took second place in the girls 125-pound weight class.

—Ashley Rosas, of Quincy, who took second place in the girls 145-pound weight class.
