The Queen's Sandringham estate to host drive-in movies

The Queen is opening her estate at Sandringham to be used as a drive-in cinema.

The estate, in Norfolk, will hosts the screenings for a weekend at the end of September, with movie-goers easily able to follow social distancing guidelines.

It will start on 25 September with a double bill of of Sam Mendes' World War I movie 1917, followed by Elton John biopic Rocketman at 9pm.

The following day will see Toy Story begin at 1pm, with Hugh Jackman musical The Greatest Showman at 5pm with evening rounded off at 9pm with Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

The final day sees Pixar's Moana at 1pm, classic musical Grease at 5pm and Oscar-winner A Star Is Born at 9pm.

Tickets will cost £35 per car, with an additional £7.50 to add a table, chairs and popcorn to the area adjacent to your car, with food vendors also on site.

The Queen is currently in residence at Balmoral, but usually spends Christmas at Sandringham.

Coronavirus has hugely affected the tourism usually associated with the Royal family, with millions of pounds in revenue having been lost over lockdown.

Buckingham Palace's summer opening was cancelled completely, but Windsor Castle reopened at the end of July after three months of closure.
