Public Records: Restaurant Inspections

The following are restaurant inspections with critical violations, as conducted by the Guernsey County Health Department, in the month of January.

Jan. 4

Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 1930 E. Wheeling Ave. Prepared ready-to-eat items in the walk-in cooler did not have a seven-day date mark.

Jan. 10

Long John Silvers, 1821 Wheeling Ave. Ice cream scoop was being stored on the dusty surface of ice maker.

Jan. 11

McDonald’s – Byesville, 213 E. Main St. Sausage gravy in a walk-in cooler does not have a date mark.

Tim Horton’s, 1721 Southgate Parkway. Person in charge unable to demonstrate knowledge of foodborne diseases. Sure Shot and Specialty Hot Beverage have crusted debris buildup and are unsanitary.

We’re Rolling Pretzel Company, 61205 Southgate Parkway. Thawed hot dogs were being stored on a wet, saturated towel in the refrigerator. A Windex spray nozzle was against a box of straws under the cash register.

Jan. 13

360 Burger, 11201 Cadiz Road. Cut greens in prep cooler do not have a date mark.

Jan. 14

Domino’s Pizza Store, 738 Wheeling Ave. Person in charge unable to demonstrate knowledge of foodborne disease and the significance of maintaining time/temperature controlled for food safety.

Sho Gun Japanese Restaurant, 61600 Southgate Road. The sushi prep cook did not wash hands between tasks and before donning gloves to prevent cross-contamination. Beef products in the walk-in cooler were stored above ready-to-eat items (oranges, lemons, peppers). Yum Yum sauce in a walk-in cooler is being mass produced and stored in a garbage can type 50-gallon container. An employee states that they hose out the can occasionally. The sushi prep staff did not sanitize the cutting board before moving on to another task. The license holder did not demonstrate achieved sanitation while using a solution other than chlorine, quaternary ammonium, or iodine. Ready-to-eat items were labeled by name but did not include a seven-day use by date.

Jan. 18

Wendy’s of Cambridge, 1708 Southgate Parkway. Cut greens and sausage gravy in the walk-in cooler did not have a date mark.

Jan.19

Riesbeck’s Store, 1731 Southgate Parkway. The cutting board/prep table has dried produce residue and juice. Cobwebs directly over prep area.

Plus One Pizza, 220 Clark St. Employees did not wash their hands after a task (cleaning) and then went to food prep. Prep tables, countertops, and cutting boards were not sanitized between use. Food contact surfaces throughout the facility that have debris buildup, splatter, or are in need of repair or cleaning: pizza roller, prep tables, scales, countertops, computer/receipt/display machines, pizza oven. An employee stated the marinara was not rapidly reheated before transferring to warmers. Items in the walk-in cooler that did not have a date mark: cut lettuce, chicken, sliced tomatoes.

Jan. 20

Denny’s Restaurant, 2031 Southgate Parkway. Employee cut a banana with bare hands and touched the sliced banana with bare hands. The ice cream station had sanitized serving plates below that were splattered with food debris and syrups.

Jan. 24

Faith Community Childcare, 192 S. Second St. Improper storage of chicken in the freezer.

Jan. 26

Georgetown Vineyards, 62920 Georgetown Road. Meatballs and marinara had an internal temperature of 120 degrees at hot holding.

McKenna’s Market, 705 Wheeling Ave. Stated that the owner transports beef for chili to the premises from another store, home, etc. The following items had an internal temperature in excess of 41 degrees: crab meat, baked potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, ham salad, potato salad, artichoke dip. Ends of lunch meat were kept for 14 days for resale. Labels for cheese chunks and deli meat ends are not labeled correctly to declare allergens.

Jan. 27

Hondros Market, 232 Dewey Ave., No person in charge present in food facility during inspection. An employee prepared a submarine sandwich and did not sanitize the cutting board/prep surface. Gyro meat, deli meat, and cut greens in a prep cooler do not have date marks.

Tommy’s Old Fashion Pizza, 221 Main St. Sliced green peppers in prep cooler do not have a date mark.

Jan. 28

Trail Family Diner, 320 Dewey Ave. Cut green, cut green peppers and chili do not have a seven-day date mark.

Jan. 31

Subway of Cambridge, 1710 Southgate Parkway. Rims of the display/assembly line have excessive food residue and debris that has not been cleaned in some time. Bottle of leaking Weed-B-Gone resting against soda dispenser syrup boxes. Drying racks above the three-compartment sink are rusted.
