Providence police increase patrols after man shot playing basketball in Billy Taylor Park
A 26-year-old Central Falls man was shot in the arm while playing basketball Sunday night at Billy Taylor Park in Providence, according to the police.
No one had been apprehended as of Monday afternoon, and the police have increased their presence in the neighborhood, Cmdr. Thomas Verdi said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the police were dispatched to the park, at Camp and Cypress streets, to investigate a report of shots fired.
As officers arrived, several people directed them to the park, the police said in a report. There, officers found several spent shell casings on one side of the basketball court and two trails of blood, the police said.

At about 8:18 p.m., a gunshot victim arrived at The Miriam Hospital. He told the police he had been playing basketball with another man when somebody started shooting at them. He said they ran from the court and were later picked up by a friend who drove him to the hospital.
The victim's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, according to Verdi.
Detectives are investigating, Verdi said.
