Protesters Oppose State Funeral of Late Japanese Prime Minister in Tokyo

Protesters opposing the state funeral of the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gathered in central Tokyo on Tuesday, September 27.

Footage recorded by @kokuso_bot shows protesters holding signs opposing the funeral, which was held on Tuesday.

A poll carried out by Japanese broadcaster NHK showed that just 32 percent of Japanese people approved of the state funeral, with 57 percent disapproving.

Protesters told CNN that some of Abe’s more unpopular policies and the high cost of the event contributed to them opposing the funeral.

Abe was fatally shot during an election rally in July. Japanese broadcaster NHK reported that 700 foreign representatives attended the state funeral. Credit: @kokuso_bot via Storyful
