Prince William and Duchess Kate touch down in Pakistan for 5-day royal tour

And the royal tour is on!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Islamabad's Kur Khan airbase in Pakistan late on Monday night to kick off their five-day royal tour of the country. Their visit this week marks the first royal visit since Prince Charles' and Duchess Camilla's turbulent tour in 2006.

Queen Elizabeth visited the country for the first time in 1961 and again in 1997, while Princess Diana paid a visit back in 1991 and 1997.

The duchess looked polished as ever while stepping off a Royal Air Force aircraft in a turquoise Catherine Walker tunic and Rupert Sanderson pumps, while Prince William opted for a navy tie and suit.

The visit has been deemed the "most complex" tour ever for the couple given the various "logistical and security considerations" required during a visit to the country. According to reports, over 1,000 Pakistani policemen will be used to ensure the royals' safety in a "ring of steel."

Kate and William's visit this week will include visits to Islamabad, Lahore and "the rugged border regions to the West." The parents of three will also pay particular attention to organizations dedicated to education and the empowerment of young girls, as well as understanding how the country is working to combat climate change.
