As a member of the royal family, Meghan Markle has pretty much anything her heart desires at her fingertips.

But there’s one person who knows how to think outside the box when it comes to gifts for the Duchess of Sussex and that’s her husband, Prince Harry.

New mum Meghan is set to turn 38 on Sunday 4 August and Harry is expected to lavish his wife with gifts at their Frogmore Cottage home, in Windsor.

“Harry has a weakness for designing jewellery for Meghan, so it is expected that the royal will design another stunning piece - likely to be earrings - as a Sussex surprise,” a royal insider told The Sun’s Fabulous Digital.

As it’s her first birthday as a mum, the source also believes Prince Harry will present Meghan with a ‘sepia or black and white photograph of her precious son’ on behalf of baby Archie.

Indeed, Prince Harry does like to add a personal touch to Meghan’s jewellery collection, by designing some of the pieces himself.

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring

The most famous piece the Duke of Sussex has created is of course Meghan’s stunning engagement ring, which Prince Harry designed with the help of jewellers Cleave and Company.

It features an impressive centre stone from Botswana – a place that holds special meaning for the couple after they camped there together early in their relationship.

“The ring is - is obviously yellow gold because that's her favourite - and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana,” Harry said in his first interview with Meghan to the BBC.

Harry also made sure to include a tribute to his mum in Meghan’s ring.

“The little diamonds either side are from my mother's jewellery collection to make sure that she's with us on this - on this crazy journey together,” he said.

However, Meghan came under fire in June for redesigning the ring and adding a glittering pave diamond band to it.

Not everyone thought Meghan’s upgrade was something to be celebrated, as one royal expert believes the ring is something to be treasured and shouldn’t be modified.

"I find it a bit odd Meghan would want to alter a ring that her husband had especially designed for her," editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, Ingrid Seward told The Sun.

"A royal engagement ring is a piece of history not a bit of jewellery to be updated when it looks old fashioned."

As for Meghan’s birthday plans, we hope she has something nice in the works, as last year she attended the wedding of Harry’s friend Charlie van Straubenzee to Daisy Jenks in Farnham, England.
