In the first episode of the new Netflix docu-series, Harry & Meghan, which is no doubt set to be watched by millions around the world, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle share how they met, how their romance blossomed and how they made the choice to break away from the Royal Family - largely in part down to how 'The Firm' interacts with the press.

Whilst reminiscing about his childhood, Prince Harry shares that he has long-lasting memories of "swarms of paparazzi" but struggles to recall early moments featuring his mother, Princess Diana, "[It was like] internally I'd blocked them out, but I always remember her laugh, her cheeky laugh. Her always saying to me 'You can get in trouble just don't get caught'... And I'll always be that cheeky person inside."

He also revealed that despite the harm that having constant cameras following you around can cause, that the internal advice he received from the Palace was to essentially just 'ignore them', which he said made no difference.

"The advice that's always given is don't react, don't feed into it. There was always public pressure, drama, tears, witnessing those tears," the prince recalls. "I'd always see it on my mum's face and those were the moments where I thought, hold on a moment, what am I? Who am I? What am I a part of?"

As well as sharing his love for his mother, Harry also expresses that some of the things he loves the most about his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, are qualities she shares with the late Princess Diana.

"So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum," the Duke says while facing the camera. "She has the same compassion, the same empathy, the same confidence. She has this warmth about her."

He then adds, "I accept that there will be people around the world who fundamentally disagree with what I've done [breaking away from the Royal Family] and how I've done it, but I knew I had to do everything I could to protect my family, I didn't want history to repeat itself."

The film then cuts to clip of Meghan and their son, Archie, looking at a picture of Princess Diana, with Meghan saying "Hey grandma, that's your grandma Diana".

It's clear the late Princess plays a big part in their relationship and family life, and that Meghan and Harry both want their children to know all about her.

The first three episodes of Harry & Meghan are available on Netflix now, with volume two set to drop next week
