Sometimes the clearest expressions are unintended.

President Joe Biden, not always known for his clarity, spoke clearly after the recent leak of the United States Supreme Court’s draft concerning a majority opinion which gave indication that Roe v. Wade might be overturned.

History was unfortunately made May 2 as Politico.com not only communicated the potential reversal of Roe v. Wade but published a draft of what is to be the majority opinion of the Supreme Court in the Dobbs abortion case from Mississippi. While the leak was indeed unfortunate, the subsequent words from President Biden were telling.

The next day while standing at Andrews Air Force Base, President Biden was asked about the leaked document and the topic of abortion. Speaking of Roe v. Wade, he said, “And think what Roe says. Roe says what all basic mainstream religions have historically concluded. That the right that the existence of a human life and being is a question, is it at the moment of conception, is it six months, is it six weeks, is it quickening like Aquinas argued?”

The problem with his statement is that it simply isn’t true. The Catholic Church to which he belongs is clear on the issue of life. The Catholic church says that life does in fact begin at conception. The official teaching of the Catholic Church is that abortion is the termination of an unborn human life and that it is a sin. Biden also has said that he holds to a personal conviction that aligns with the Catholic Church concerning abortion but that he must rule or govern in a way that is independent of his religious convictions. This supposed “conviction” is actually a lack of conviction and can be described as irrational gymnastics. Such a position is at best awkward and at least intellectually defenseless.

Most astoundingly, Biden went on to say that the abortion industry does not want him to say. He said, “I mean, so the idea that we’re going to make a judgment that is going to say no one can make a judgment to choose to abort a child based upon a decision by the Supreme Courts, I think goes way overboard.”

There it is--“ABORT A CHILD.” Finally, someone said it. And not just any someone--the President of the United States of America. The abortion industry talks about being “pro-choice” and they talk about women’s “reproductive rights.” Those advocating for abortion talk not about a child, but a “fetus.” However, the President of the United States of America has now said that we are talking about aborting a child. He accidentally used the word “child,” but he was speaking the truth.

Let us call it what it is. Abortion is the killing of an unborn child. The abortion industry does not consider abortion the murder of a human life. Those who are pro-choice do not say that abortion is about aborting a baby; rather it’s about a women’s choice concerning her body.

President Joe Biden is now on record that abortion is a matter of taking a child’s life. Whether we talk about terminating a child or killing a child, it is plainly and simply the destruction of unborn human life--something that the President of the United States of America says is aborting “a child.”
