Preseason Poll: De Smet and Sioux Valley boys ranked along with Hamlin, Castlewood girls

The four area high school boys and girls teams who played in state championship games last winter are ranked in the 2021-22 Preseason South Dakota Prep Media Basketball Poll.

Defending Class B boys champion De Smet is ranked No. 1 in Class B and defending Class A boys runner-up Sioux Valley No. 2 in Class A.

State runner-ups Hamlin and Castlewood are each ranked in the girls’ polls. Hamlin is No. 3 in Class A and Castlewood No. 5 in Class B.

Three other area boys basketball teams — Milbank in Class A and Waubay-Summit and Castlewood in Class B — each received votes.
