Prep Wrestling: Watertown's Hach, nine area grapplers capture individual titles in weekend tourneys

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Micah Hach claimed the 285-pound championship to pace the performance of the Watertown High School wrestling team on Saturday in the Sioux City Bishop Heelan Invitational.

Grand Island (Neb.) won the 14-team tourney with 181 pounds. The short-handed Arrows were 10th with 74.

Hach was one of seven place winners for Watertown. He went 3-0 with three falls, including one of Ayden Hoag of Le Mars (Iowa) in 4:06 to win the championship at 285. Hach is now 21-7 on the season.

Braden Le took fourth at 120 for the Arrows. Ian Johnson (152) and Matthew Peters (182) each took seventh and Cooper Kettwig (113), RJ Nichols (126) and Landon Peery (220) each eighth.

Watertown is scheduled to head to Aberdeen twice this week. The Arrows taken on Aberdeen Central and Harrisburg on Thursday in a triangular starting at 5 p.m. and will also compete Saturday in the Lee Wolf Invite starting at 9:30 a.m.

Kingsbury County Invitational

ARLINGTON — Holden Hawkins and Ian Metz of Sisseton, Dylan Zell of Kingsbury County and Lane Fink of Canby (Minn.) each won division titles Saturday in the Kingsbury County Invitational.

Redfield Area won the 16-team meet with 267 points. Kingsbury County was third (183), Canby fourth (132), Sisseton seventh (109), Hamlin-Castlewood ninth (90.5) and Sioux Valley 12th (49.4).

All four area individual champions went 4-0 on the day including Hawkins (18-3), who defeated Gannon Gilligan of Kingsbury County 7-0 in the 113-pound championship; Metz (16-2), who pinned Nolan Miles of Brookings in 2:47 in the 120-pound finale; Zell (22-5), who won 7-1 over Keaton Rohlfs of Redfield Area in the 132-pound championship and Fink (26-4), who downed Shilo Mowry of Lyman County 10-7 in the finals at 138.

Other area place winners were:

Kingsbury County — Lane Albrecht (5th at 106), Blake Jennings (6th at 120), Lane Holland (6th at 132), Caleb Clark (6th at 145), Tucker Anderson (4th at 160), Connor Johnson (5th at 170), Dylan Singrey (5th at 182), Nate Kersting (2nd at 195) and Owen Kerkvliet (5th at 285).

Canby, Minn. — Eli Greenman (2nd at 106), Clayton Drietz (6th at 126), Lincoln Fink (2nd at 145), Nick Wagner (62nd at 160), Parker Verhelst (4th at 195) and Gavin Noyes (6th at 220).

Sisseton — Blake Steiner (6th at 106), Boe Iverson (5th at 132), Mason Shultz (3rd at 182) and Ethan Skarnagel (6th at 285).

Hamlin-Castlewood — Brody Randall (4th at 106), John Yonker (4th at 120), Chase Chambers (4th at 145), Troy Randall Jr. (5th at 152) and Kaden St. Pierre (6th at 160),

Sioux Valley — Zane Miller (5th at 113), Mitchell Guthmiller (4th at 126) and Joe Hornick (6th at 170).

River City Rumble

CHAMBERLAIN — Jacob Johnson (120 pounds) and Barrett Schneck (160) each won individual titles to lead Milbank to a third-place finish in the River City Rumble on Saturday.

Mitchell won the 10-team meet with 178.5 points, followed by Chamberlain at 163 and Milbank 141.

Johnson capped a 3-0 day by pinning Mitchell’s Kaileb Hubbard in 1:51 to win the 120-pound class. Schneck also went 3-0 and notched a 7-0 win over Payton Dewitt of Douglas in the 160-pound final.

Schneck is 22-4 on the season and Johnson 10-10.

Six other Bulldog wrestlers placed. Leyton Raffety (182) and Maddox Hanson (220) each were second, Kaden Krause (132) and Jesse Schneck (170) each third, and Tate Schlueter (152) and Landon Novy (285) each fifth.

Parkston Little B

PARKSTON — Gunnar Kvistad of Clark-Willow Lake and Caleb McGregor of Webster Area each captured individual championships on Saturday in the Parkston Little B Invitational.

Jackson County Central (Minn.) won the 15-team tourney with 302.5 points. Clark-Willow Lake was seventh with 116 and Webster Area 11th with 71.

Kvistad (29-4) capped a 4-0 day with a pin of Parkston’s Porter Neugebauer at the four-minute mark of the 152-pound title. McGregor (21-4) went 3-0 and notched a 5-3 decision over Austin Hoiten of McCook Central-Montrose in the 220-pound final.

Cael Larson of Webster Area (32-1) suffered his first loss of the season, falling to Thomas Freking of Jackson County Central 4-2 in overtime in the 138-pound championship.

Lucas Kannegieter of Clark-Willow Lake finished second at 170. Other Cyclone place winners were Cooper Pommer (4th at 106), Ethan McElhone (4th at 138), Elliot Bratland (6th at 145), Kasey Michalski (6th at 182) and Jerome Enbodden (6th at 195).

Trace Shoemaker of Webster Area was fifth at 126.

Girls Governor Wrestling Invite

PIERRE — Annie Witt of Webster Area won the 154-pound title on Saturday in the Girls Governor Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

Pierre scored 148 points to top the 19-team field. Webster Area tied for 10th with 24.

Witt (11-2) won all three of her matches by fall, including one in 1:14 over Ireland Templeton of Pierre in the championship.

Kingsbury County Duals

ARLINGTON — Host Kingsbury County posted wins over Lyman (54-29), Sioux Valley (64-16) and Warner-Northwestern (63-15) in a high school wrestling quadrangular on Friday.

Lane Albrecht (106 pounds), Gannon Gilligan (113-120), Kaleb Johnson (126), Dylan Zell (132-138), Nate Kersting (195) and Owen Kerkvliet (285) each went 3-0 on the night for the Knights.

Sioux Valley finished 1-2, beating Warner-Northwestern 36-24 and losing to Lyman 39-26.

Joe Hornick went 3-0 at 170 pounds for the Cossacks.
