Prep sports: Pueblo events/games to watch for week of Jan. 10

Jan. 8—Every season, the event is one to circle on the calendar for girls swimming teams around the state.

The Pueblo County Hornet Invitational draws teams from all over Colorado, mainly because the pool on the school grounds produces some of the fastest times in the state.

This year, 24 teams will participate in the invitational which will be held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 14 and 15 at the Hornet Natatorium.

Teams participating include: Alamosa, Aurora Hinkley, Cheyenne Mountain, Coronado, Doherty, Fountain Fort Carson, Fountain Valley, Gunnison, La Junta, Lewis Palmer, Liberty, Manitou Springs, Mountain View, Palmer, Pine Creek, Pueblo Central, Pueblo Centennial, Pueblo County, Pueblo East, Pueblo West, Rampart, Salida, Sierra, St. Mary's.

The Lancers come calling at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11 when they take on the Hornets at Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena.

One of the top wrestling tournaments in Pueblo goes off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, when Centennial High School hosts the Centennial Invitational.

It'll be a chance to see some of the top wrestlers and teams in the state as No. 3-ranked East and No. 4 Pueblo County will be two of the teams participating.

Jerry Kersey Gym will be the site of a nonleague girls basketball game between the Eagles and Cyclones starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13.

The Hornets Nest will be rocking when Pueblo County hosts Palmer Ridge in a nonleague boys basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 15.
