Prep Softball Roundup: MACCRAY sweeps doubleheader with RCW

May 11—RAYMOND — After dropping its first six games, MACCRAY softball is inching closer to the .500 mark with five wins in its last six contests.

The Wolverines tacked on a pair of victories Monday with a Camden Conference sweep of Renville County West. The scores were 13-0 in Game 1 and 22-1 in Game 2.

Already up 9-0 in Game 1 through five innings, MACCRAY put the 10-run rule into play with a four-run frame in the top of the sixth. Erika Pieper hit a bases-loaded double in that inning, finishing the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Olivia Naatjes was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Emma Rand, Lizzie Koenen, Ashley Levitz-Mickels and Ali Koenen each had two hits for the Wolverines.

Levitz-Mickels was also the winning pitcher, holding the Jaguars to three hits in a complete-game effort. Hannah Savig was 1-for-2 for RCW. Jenny Bratsch and Adrianna Molenaar were 1-for-3.

In the nightcap, the Wolverines scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first thanks to eight walks, five hits and three RCW errors. Koenen led the offense, going 3-for-4 with four runs and an RBI. Rand was 3-for-3 with four runs, Naatjes was 2-for-3 with a run, and Pieper wrapped up her night with two runs and two RBIs.Hady Schoffmann picked up the win after striking out four while giving up one run on one hit and three walks in three innings.

Laila Ridler and Brianna Winzenburg collected the Jaguars' two hits in Game 2.

MACCRAY (5-7) is off until Monday, May 17 when the team travels to Granite Falls for a doubleheader against Yellow Medicine East. RCW (1-14) heads to Olivia to face BOLD for a non-conference game Friday.
