Prep Soccer: Willmar boys open state with Worthington

Oct. 25—BROOKLYN CENTER — The Willmar boys soccer team was named the No. 4 seed in the Class AA state tournament, the Minnesota State High School League announced on Saturday.

The Cardinals open state against No. 5 seed Worthington in the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Waconia. It is the school's third state trip and the first since 2016.

The game features the only two undefeated teams in the Class AA field. Willmar is 17-0-2. Worthington is 19-0-0.

The Trojans are the Section 2AA champions and reached state after a 4-0 win over Mankato West in the section finals.

The state semifinals take place at 12:30 and /2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, and the state finals are at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Both the semifinals and finals will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
