PREP ROUNDUP: Logansport baseball beats Twin Lakes 10-4

Apr. 11—The Logansport baseball team had a complete team effort in a 10-4 win over Twin Lakes on Saturday at Jim Turner Field.

The Berries (3-2) knocked off an Indians squad (3-4) that was coming off back-to-back wins over North White and Class 2A No. 1 Lafayette Central Catholic.

Gavin Smith went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Logan. Calryan Parmeter had a triple and single. Tristan Kitchel had a double, single and two RBIs. Ethan Denny had a double, single and RBI. Kaiden Lucero had two hits and two RBIs. Grayson Long had a single and RBI. Brennan Goforth added a double.

Smith, Goforth and Garrett Barron combined for the win on the mound. Smith allowed two runs in three innings with three strikeouts. Goforth allowed one run in two innings with three strikeouts. Barron allowed one run in two innings with two strikeouts.

The Indians put rallies together in the fifth and sixth innings but left the bases loaded in both frames. Second baseman Kian Harris made a web gem in each inning to help thwart the rallies.

Clayton Bridwell went 3-for-5 for the Indians. Peyton Hirt had two hits and three RBIs. Ethan Bowsman had two hits. Reece Arthur added a double and RBI.

Logan travels to McCutcheon on Tuesday.

PIONEER SPLITS

Pioneer split a doubleheader at North White. The Panthers dropped game one 6-5 and won game two 13-3 in six innings.

Daniel Reyes and Oscar Solano pitched the first game. Wyatt Zeider started the second game and Hunter Klepinger came in to close out the win.

Caleb Sweet went 5-for-7 on the day at the plate. Reyes went 4-for-8 with two doubles. Tyler Gaumer went 2-for-3 with two doubles, Mason Schnurpel went 2-for-3 and Eli Miller went 2-for-4.

Pioneer hosts Rochester Thursday.

MANCHESTER 14, CASTON 6

The Comets (1-1) dropped their first contest of the season at Manchester.

Carter See had a double, single, two RBIs and two runs scored for Caston. Adam Rush had two hits and a run scored. Joey Spin had a single and three RBIs. Cam Kline and Jessie Rock-Wolf each added a hit.

Spin took the loss on the mound.

"I felt as though we had some lapses today that Manchester took advantage of," Caston coach Blake Mollenkopf said. "Some days the ball doesn't bounce your way or a call may not go your way, we just need to do a better job of overcoming those type of situations. Solid day offensively, but we committed five errors which we cannot allow to happen."

Game two was rained out. The Comets return to play Tuesday at Wabash at 6 p.m.

SOFTBALL

LOGAN 5, TWIN LAKES 4

The Berries scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh for a walkoff win at Fincher Field.

Claire Kitchel started the rally with a single. Ashlyn Berkshire entered as a courtesy runner for Kitchel. Kendra Sutton hit a hard single to left. A sac bunt by Kylie Byrd moved the runners up to second and third. Chloe Kelly followed with an RBI single to left to score Berkshire to make it a 4-3 game. Sutton and Kelly then moved up to second and third on passed ball. Katey Hall popped up to second for the second out. Berkshire entered the game as a pinch-hitter. Sutton scored on a passed ball to score the tying run and Kelly moved up to third. Berkshire reached base on a swinging bunt and then stole second. Addy Guire drew a walk to load the bases. Justyce Rohrabaugh stepped to the plate with bases loaded and two outs in a tie ballgame. The first pitch was a passed ball allowing Kelly to score the game-winning run.

The Berries (2-2) had 10 hits total on the day. Rohrabaugh went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the way.

Kitchel recorded a complete-game win, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out nine.

CASTON 15, LACROSSE 0

The Lady Comets (5-0) got one of two games played at Remington Town Park before the second was called due to rain.

Kinzie Mollenkopf pitched five innings, giving up one hit, striking out seven.

Annie Harsh, Mollenkopf, Layne Oliver, Isabel Scales, Maddi Smith and Addison Zimpleman all had hits.

CASS 9, MISSISSINEWA 5

Cass defeated visiting Mississinewa.

Madi Dormer went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored for the Kings (2-2). Kaylie Williams went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, three stolen bases and two runs scored. Kyndal Silcox went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Dormer recorded the win on the mound.

S. CENTRAL 6, WINAMAC 4

South Central rallied from a 4-0 deficit with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth in a win over visiting Winamac.

Catie Perry had two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors. Aubrey Gearhart and Emma Goodman had two hits apiece. McKenzie Hinz had a double and RBI. Ella Hague had a single and RBI. Ella Gearhart had a double. Maggie Smith added a single.

BOYS GOLF

ROCHESTER INVITE

Logansport shot a 187 to placed sixth out of 13 teams at the season opening event. Rain shortened the event to nine holes.

Tyler Vietti led the Berries with a 41, followed by Trevor Vietti (47), Noah Lange (49), Brant Higgins (50) and Brady Bair (52). Playing as individuals were Malachi Pearson (54) and David Wooten (54).

Tipton won with a 164, followed by Culver Academies (173), Rochester (175), Chesterton (186), Maconaquah (186), Logan (187), Garrett (187), Valparaiso (193), Northwestern (201), Oak Hill (203), Huntington North (206), Tippecanoe Valley (215) and Churubusco (230).

GIRLS TRACK

WINAMAC INVITE

Winamac placed runner-up at its event.

Alexis Sheets and Brenna Day were the high scorers of the team each with 26 individual points. Sheets finished second in both the 100 and 200 dashes. She also took third in the 400 and fourth in the high jump. Day took first in the pole vault and second in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Kingsley Kroft placed second in the long jump for the Warriors. Kate Collins placed second in the 800 and third in the 1,600. Kelsey Wegner placed third in the 3,200. Ariana Gualajara placed third in the high jump.

Kroft, Gualajara, Wegner and Collins won the 4x800 relay.

Caston placed sixth as a team. Tayler Shafer won the shot put. Bailey Turnpaugh-Stevens placed third in the 200.

Carroll won with a 138, followed by Winamac (118), Pioneer (103), Clinton Central (44), North White (38) and Caston (33).

BOYS TRACK

WINAMAC INVITE

Winamac won with a 154, followed by Pioneer (121), Carroll (72), Clinton Central (55), Caston (51) and North White (42).

Caston's Brady Evans won the 110 hurdles and was second in the 200 dash. Austin Dague won the 3,200 run.
