Prep Roundup: Lenawee Christian boys soccer shuts out Blissfield

ADRIAN — The Lenawee Christian boys soccer team got off to a strong start Thursday as it beat Blissfield in a non-league mercy, 8-0.

The Royals (0-1) were first on the attack as they had two great chances to get out in front early, but one shot bounced off the crossbar while another was corralled by goalkeeper Tyler Rutter.

In the seventh minute, Jack Stamats got the Cougars (1-0) going with a goal off an assist from Christian Orta before Brady McKelvey scored in the 18th minute. Orta scored two minutes later off an assist from Stamats and then added another goal on a breakaway to go up 4-0 with 9:57 to go in the first half.

Coach Thoughts

Nathan Sharpe, LCS: The start is something we'd want back.(Blissfield) has got good team speed and that's something we're going to have to work on. The guys stepped up and made good adjustments. I liked our finishing tonight.

Jacob Birkenkamp, Blissfield: This is the happiest loss I've probably had in my career. That sounds weird after an 8-0 loss, but as far as goal scoring opportunities go ... it's a lot closer game than the scoreline tells. A lot of the stuff we've worked on really paid off, but the scoreline got away from us.
