PREP ROUNDUP: Cass baseball tops Taylor 4-3

May 8—The Lewis Cass baseball team rallied for a 4-3 win over visiting Taylor on Friday night.

The Kings fell behind 3-0 before they scored two in the fourth and two more in the fifth for the win.

Adam Bandelier got the win with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just one hit and no walks and struck out five.

Tyson Good got the start and allowed three runs (none earned) on four hits and five walks in 3 1/3 innings, striking out five.

The Kings (4-9) started their comeback in the fourth with a pair of runs. Good started the inning with a single. He stole second and moved to third on a groundout. Jack Salyers' RBI groundout cut the Titans' (5-12) lead to 3-1. Ethan Epperhart hit a two-out single. Haden McClain reached on an error. Wyatt Orpurt followed with an RBI single up the middle to make it a 3-2 game.

Bandelier and David Woolever drew back-to-back walks to lead off the fifth. Bandelier moved to third on a fly out to right by Good. Woolever stole second. Bandelier scored on an error by the catcher to tie the game at 3-apiece. Woolever moved to third on a groundout and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

A one-out single followed by a Cass error put Taylor runners on first and second with one out in the sixth. But Bandelier dialed up back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat. He then worked a 1-2-3 seventh to seal the win.

Orpurt finished with two hits for the Kings, who host Oak Hill on Monday.

SOFTBALL

CASS 5, DELPHI 2

Paxtyn Hicks went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Kings past the Oracles in pool play at Twin Lakes' invitational.

Also for Cass, Cana Jones was 3-for-3 with two runs, Madison Dormer was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run and Kelsey Roller provided a spark with two sacrifice bunts.

Dormer pitched all seven innings. She struck out six.

Cass plays Pioneer and Munster today to finish pool play.

WINAMAC 11, NORTH NEWTON 6

Alexis Sheets and Aubrey Gearhart hit home runs in Winamac's win at the Twin Lakes Invite.

Maggie Smith had two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors. Emma Goodman had two hits and two runs scored. Kaya Campbell had a triple and run scored. McKenzie Hinz had a single and three runs scored. Ella Gearhart added a single.

Aubrey Gearhart got the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs and striking out 12 in seven innings.
